Coming Soon
Stories Worth Something is a digital publication featuring stories from contest winners and runners up. We are thrilled to be launching our very first competition beginning August 18th 2026 and ending on September 30th 2026.
Submit your story based on the following prompt:
In 500 words or less share your riveting story about the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you.
The best story-teller will win $500!
Stories are judged based on originality, level of second-hand embarrassment, emotional intrigue, creative writing/use of language, and overall readability.
We want to read your stories and reward the storyteller who writes the most impressive story based on the criteria listed above.
Originality considers how fresh, distinctive, or unexpected the story feels.
Second-Hand Embarrassment considers how strongly the story makes the reader cringe, squirm, laugh, or otherwise experience the embarrassment alongside the storyteller.
Emotional Intrigue considers the story's ability to create emotional investment and keep the reader engaged.
Creative Writing & Language considers the entrant's use of language, imagery, voice, description, and storytelling technique.
Overall Readability considers how effectively and enjoyably the story works as a complete piece.
The Winner will be the eligible submission receiving the highest overall evaluation under these criteria.
The nine submissions receiving the next-highest overall evaluations will be designated Honorable Mentions, and published here alongside the competition winner.
